The tale does start, though, with YOU. That's correct, YOU. The one who is currently reading this post wondering if I am really writing to YOU. Yes, I am.
It starts with YOU visiting this blog, reading the stories, and discovering talent.
It continues with YOU clicking links and knowing that the links will take YOU to artists, healers, scientists, performers, musicians, producers, writers, curators, filmmakers whose intention is connecting with community.
As YOU explore this growing network of links, YOU find moments of intersection, where your interests or passions or talents meet those of another artist, performer, healer....
In that moment, YOU know there is someone with whom YOU can engage, inquire, and connect.
And YOU know that it is simply an email or event away.
This, to me, is what makes 14 Black Poppies thrive, and why this season is so remarkable: it is simply about people connecting and sharing talent.
It manifest itself this past week on Friday, February 16 in the form of the Common Thread Collective show on Mutiny Radio and the Local Vocals Variety Show. The Common Thread Collective is a weekly radio show and open mic hosted by Diamond Dave, Valerie Ibarra, and Douglass from 3PM to 6PM. The Local Vocals Variety Show is our bi-monthly open mic (7PM to 9PM) at Progressive Grounds (2301 Bryant St, SF) hosted by Brian Vocalist.
During the Common Thread Collective show, many musicians that have upcoming 14 Black Poppies' shows at Progressive Grounds performed on air, such as Star Amerasu (Rising Stars), Matthew Tyler Smith (Soup & Sounds), and John Radogno (Radical Acoustic). Then, Christine, a featured musician on the Common Thread Collective from St. George, Utah, performed at the Local Vocals Variety Show. After a few of her own songs, she paired her incredible, compelling voice with other musicians to create moments of musical magic.
These kinds of intersections don't "just happen". They are facilitated, cultivated, and strengthened by the actions of individuals, like YOU.
So take a moment to click a link, come to an event, discover new talent, make a connection. Who knows what YOU'll uncover. YOU may even make a new friend.
Take a listen to Christine on Common Thread Collective. AND...She'll be back for the Local Vocals Variety Show on Friday, March 1st at 7PM at Progressive Grounds (2301 Bryant St, SF).
