A personal note about Jimena from Jason Wyman: I met Jimena in 2004 through her educational equity work at California Tomorrow. We partnered on producing a series of workshops about how to increase engagement of English Language Learners for those working in youth development and after school programs. I knew then that Jimena was a talented facilitator and a strong advocate for equity. I did not know how talented she really was or how long our friendship would last.
Fast forward 7 years. Margaret and I just founded 14 Black Poppies, and we knew that we wanted to work with a network of artists and healers that would help ground our work in an intercultural, intergenerational, interdisciplinary perspective. I reached out to Jimena because I knew that we shared a similar passion for working with historically marginalized communities. I knew that she would bring a perspective that would be crucial to 14 Black Poppies success.
When we met in Berkeley, I learned a whole new side of Jimena: a healer. We shared deep connection and conversation about bringing renewal, healing, and self-care to communities that have been historically marginalized and bringing equity and diversity into healer communities. It was a match. A better match than I ever could have anticipated. And Jimena joined the 14 Black Poppies Artists and Healers Network.

7 Steps to Effectively Manifest in 2012!
Remember last year’s New Year’s resolution of getting back into shape? Or how about the New Year’s resolution to finally get rid of that smoking habit? Every year millions of people create resolutions, intentions, manifestation or whatever you choose to called them. The truth is many of these resolutions go unrealized. What keeps us from manifesting our life’s desires? When someone is in complete alignment mentally, physically, and spiritually I truly believe manifesting can be quite easy. But let’s be honest, many of us are not in full alignment and may have legitimate blocks which get in the way of us achieving our goals. Below you will find 7 steps I have found helpful in manifesting effectively.
1. The Details
When you begin brainstorming your priority areas for which you would like to manifest, be honest with yourself. Do you really know what you want? Sometimes we think we know, but upon further digging we may begin to realize we are not as clear about our goals as we thought—clarity is key! Also, successful manifestation is a delicate balance of enough detail to enable you to envision what you want to manifest and enough vagueness to leave room for the Universe to fill in the blanks to provide you with what is highest and best for you. When filling in the details, it’s important to focus on the bottom line of what you want to manifest. In other words, if you are trying to manifest a mate, it may not necessarily be the best to try to manifest a man who is six foot tall, has blue eyes, and brown curly hair. Instead, perhaps you can focus the details on finding someone you are very attracted to, who is caring, and shares many interests in common with you. Similarly, when including detail for financial abundance it may be better to include details such as: enough money to pay all your bills with ease, go on two vacations, put x amount of money into savings each month, and feel comfortable and secure financially, versus intending to manifest one million dollars.
2. Identifying Your Level of Alignment
Identify how you currently feel about your manifestation goals. Do you want to have that new car simply because your neighbor just got one? Then the hidden feeling for why you want that car is coming from a place of inadequacy, low self-esteem, etc. Why do you want what you want? Exploring why we want what we want can help us identify how we feel about not having what we want. Discordant emotions and negative past experiences often create blocks to manifesting and in turn generate misalignment with what we want. A critical step in manifesting is identifying any blocks you may have and choosing a process to release them. When you are checking in with yourself to see how you feel about a particular manifestation goal, you may find anger, resentment, etc. These emotions are the blocks. Some blocks may be easily released by simply intending to let go of an emotion, whereas deep seeded beliefs and emotions may require work with a professional (e.g. therapy, energy work, etc.)
Taking stock of what you already have is an important step in attaining more of it. Practicing a state of gratitude is beneficial in so many ways. Regardless of what you want to manifest, chances are you already have some of it in your life. For example, if you want to improve your financial situation chances are you already have some funds in your pocket…even if it’s a penny, it’s something! Likewise, if you want to improve your health chances are there are already some aspects of your health that are working well for you. Once you identify what you have that you can already be grateful for, continue the practice of gratitude and you will continue to increase your ability to accept abundance and manifest what you desire in life. Gratitude Journals are a great way to begin this practice.
